Minnesota Business Entity Search: A Step-by-Step Guide

Like most state business search portals, the Minnesota page allows the public to conveniently access information regarding businesses in the state. If you want to know how to use the page and its functions, here is a quick walkthrough of all the guidelines.

Minnesota Secretary of State

To access comprehensive details regarding certain businesses, you need to use the available functions of the search portal provided by the Minnesota Secretary of State [1]

On this page, you will be authorized to use two search methods: by name and by file number. When you opt to use the name search method, you can specify more information by using the additional search criteria for more refined sets of results. Meanwhile, if you use the file number search, make sure to indicate accurate digits to get a single result.

All of the information provided on the page is produced by the State Secretary, which is also made available to the public, free of charge.

Search by Name

Step 1

Open the business search portal of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Once you’re on the page, click the ‘Business Name’ tab beside ‘File Number.’ Enter the business name on the blank field.

Also use the other options you can find below the search field. Select one of the two options for ‘Search Scope,’ ‘Filing Status,’ and ‘Inclusion of Prior Names’ to generate more refined results.

Once you’re done, hit the search button to proceed.

Step 2

You will be directed to a new page with a comprehensive list of results. Once you find a certain business name, click the details located on the last right column of the window.

Step 2

Step 3

You will be directed to a page with all the details regarding the business entity. This includes the business’ filing history and Certificate of Good Standing. You may review all these sets of information made available to the public by the Minnesota Secretary of State.

Step 3

Search by File Number

Step 1

Same as the previous search method, access the business search portal of the Minnesota Secretary of State. Then, select the ‘File Number’ option above the blank search field.

Enter the file number on the field, then click ‘Search’ to proceed.

Step 1

Step 2

On this part, only one result should appear on the page. Filing numbers are one-of-a-kind for every business entity, so the number you entered should only match one.

Using this method is convenient since you can track the business in question immediately.

On this page, you may now access the specific details of the business, which include the filing history and Certificate of Good Standing made available to the public by the Secretary of State.
