Montana Secretary of State Business Search

All of the information presented on this search portal such as extensive business details, filing history, certificates, and more are provided by Montana’s State Secretary and are made accessible to the public and free of charge. 

Search by Name or Filing Number

To begin the search, head over to the Montana Secretary of State website’s business search portal. Enter the business name or a filing number on the blank search bar.

If you want to further narrow down your search, you may click on “Advanced”  for advanced search options, located below the search bar. A number of options will pop up such as  Entity Type, Subtype, Status, and more. 

You also have the option to enter the registration date and expiration date of a business to further refine your search results.

Once you’re done filling out the fields, click “Search”.

If you searched by name, a list of all the businesses that matched your search will pop up thereafter. Along with the names, the city-state, current status, and type of entity will be presented on the page as well. 

If you searched by filing number, only a single result will appear on the page that matched the number you’ve entered. This will be the case if you entered a correct filing number.

To access additional information, click on the name from the list.

A summary of information regarding the business you selected will emerge on the rightmost side of the page, including the business’ filing number, entity type, subtype, status, place of formation, qualification date, and more.

If you want to access more information, you can click on the “Request Information” logo on the topmost part of the sidebar. You will be directed to the Forms page in which you can select which specific information you want to acquire.
