You can begin your name search on the New Jersey Treasury Department’s Business Entity Search page [1]. This search is useful in gaining access to extensive details about business entities.

 You can find here their filing history and other necessary information, all of which are supplied and made accessible to the public by the NJ Treasury Department.

Search for Name Availability

Step 1

To confirm the availability of your desired business name, head over to the name availability for a business entity. Begin by locating the Business Name Search Portal of New Jersey Department of the Treasury page. 

This page contains a blank field where you will input your desired name. Simply click the search button to generate results.

You will be routed to another page where you will see a list of results. See the example below for reference. A list of similar names from the one you’ve entered will appear. If there are no results, this means that your desired name is still available for use.

Search by Business Name

Navigate on the same page provided on the previous method. Locate the Search Type option found on the upper right corner of the page. Click the option and choose “Business Name” from one of the four options. 

You will then be provided a blank field where you can enter the business name of a registered entity. After doing so, simply click search to obtain information.

On the next page, a list of results will be provided according to the business name you have entered. Additional information is provided as well such as entity ID, type of entity, city of incorporation, and date.

Head over to the same page provided in the previous step. Locate the “Search Type” option in the upper right corner of the page. Click the text and select “Keywords.” You will be directed to a page with a blank field where you can enter the keyword you want to search. 

After entering the keyword, click the search button to generate results.

You will be directed to a page where business entities that match the keyword you entered are listed. It will also display information such as entity ID, city of incorporation, type of entity, and date of incorporation.

Head over to the same page provided in the previous step. Select the option “Entity ID” from search types located in the upper right corner. 

On the next page, enter the entity ID on the provided blank field. Click search to generate results.
