If you’re seeking specific information about certain businesses based in the state of Oregon or want to find out of a business name is still available, you can utilize the business name search portal of the Oregon Secretary of State. In this guide, we will show you how to utilize all the available methods on the page:
Oregon Secretary of State Business Name Search
By conducting a search using the Secretary of the State’s database, you will be able to check the availability of any business entity name. To begin your search, head over to the Oregon Secretary of State webpage and find the Business Name Search section.
Search for Name Availability
On the Business Name Search page, you find a blank field where you need to input the entity you’re looking for. Among the 7 types of search methods, select “Business Name Availability Check” (see photo below for example).
Once you’ve entered the name, click the Search button to generate results.
The next page will provide you with all the results. If the name you have entered is available, you will read a text that shows that the name is still available for use. However, if it is unavailable, a notice will be generated which indicates that the name you have entered is currently used by other businesses.

Search For Business Details
Navigate on the Business Name Search page. Enter the business entity name on the blank field provided. Choose from the search options available to generate refined results: active businesses, inactive businesses, or both. After answering all the required fields, click Search to load results.
A list of results will be presented on the next page which is based on the options you have selected on the previous page. Click on the file number of the business entity name to access additional information.
On this page, you will find a summary of all the information about the business entity in question like the registered agent’s name, address, entity’s history, and more.
